Mark is passionate about board sports. In the summer he loves to be surfing and, in the winter, he transfers this to riding the snow. Mark has extensive coaching skills in both areas and has been coaching both modalities for 30 years.
In the surf he has previously coached the New Zealand team to overseas venues and been a national title holder himself. He has coached Scholastic teams and helped members gain their own National titles. In the snow he works as an instructor, trainer, and snowboard examiner for SBINZ and NMIT helping to teach, coach and mentor the newly enthused to become instructors themselves.
Tauranga Bay is surrounded by beautiful walks and hosts a seal colony that has an excellent viewing platform and views out to the Tasman sea. The cliff top walk takes you along the edge of the coast line to the light house and beyond to Cape Foulwind and the Star Tavern. There are numerous accommodation options in the area including our own place West Coast Surf Retreat where we can offer package deals on surf and stay. Contact us for package information
Enviroment and Sustainability
Here at West Coast Surf, we hold much gratitude for the place in which we play, we love that you can also come and enjoy its beauty and we ask that you respect the area by using the toilets, rubbish and recycling bins provided at the beach.
We try to have as low an impact on the environment from which we teach, keeping the area clean, trees trimmed, lawns mowed as well as clearing the track and picking up any rubbish that maybe left behind, We watch the beach and have the safety of all that use it in mind, along with the rest of the small community of Tauranga Bay we are all very passionate about the place we live in and the caretaking of it, we ask that you are too.
